Some of the more well know manufacturers were Anchor Hocking,  Akro Agate, Westmoreland, Fenton and Fosteria. A large number of patterns were produced, the most popular being Hobnail, numerous raised dots covering the item. There were elaborate as well as plain utilitarian designs.
